Platform Drawer Bed
For this repeat client in Cambridge, the desire was to transform their bedroom into a restful, compact, and intentional space. They envisioned a king-sized platform bed that would serve as a grounded anchor, utilizing the beauty of natural materials to enhance their daily ritual of rest.
Material Dialogue and Intentional Design
The core structure of the bed was crafted from solid American black walnut, chosen for its visual warmth and strong tradition. We intentionally designed a low-profile platform height to ensure comfortable sitting.
The deep, rich walnut of the frame was chosen specifically to create a beautiful contrast with the client’s existing floating live-edge maple headboard. This balance in wood species and tone reinforces the refined clarity of the design and celebrates the honest, unique character of each natural material.
Utility was integrated seamlessly. Six generously sized drawers were built into the platform base, providing sensible, clutter-hiding storage and preserving the room’s volume. The result is a piece that is meaningful, useful, and beautiful.
